Some Gahanna Lincoln High School students presently will begin a new year of producing stories through the high school'southward television program, hoping to outperform last year'south cast, which won more than student-production Emmy Awards than whatsoever other in Ohio through the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Ohio Valley Chapter.
Marking Lowrie, adviser, said the program's 13 nominations were the almost in Ohio and the entire Ohio Valley Region, which includes loftier schools in 13 TV markets, including Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton, as well as Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Huntington and Charleston, W Virginia; and Terre Haute, Indiana.
He said the loftier school's vii wins, announced during a July 25 virtual ceremony, also were the about in the region and the about in Ohio.
"It'southward incredible to exist recognized past the professionals who do the Emmy Awards," Lowrie said. "The kids worked all year to not but do the news but (also) to also create the new sports and moving-picture show classes at Lincoln. Each of our TV courses won at least ane award. I'm most excited about Best Newscast in a region that includes half of Ohio and parts of four other states. It's a huge region."
Senior Audrey Paquette was involved with four winning entries and said the honor for Best Director is most meaningful to her because she was upwards against a larger field of students.
"Nosotros were all pretty happy about wining Best Newscast," she said. "Information technology was a great feeling. I'm proud of the whole course and how anybody applied themselves to the competition."
Paquette said it would be slap-up to win All-time Newscast this coming year with a new cast and said she would apply what she has learned during the past year to practice even better this school year.
"I want to go into something like this in college – behind the scenes for TV production, Paquette said. "I definitely enjoy editing the most. I spend a lot of time at the end of the schoolhouse day, editing work to become meliorate."
She said she hopes to work on a series this year, using microphones for coaches to become that "walk around feeling" for sports coverage.
Lowrie said Paquette is a tireless worker who earned every award she received.
"It's corking that the kids can say they do the best newscast in this region considering news is what we do," he said. "Another major achievement was the Lincoln Sports Zone winning Best Sports Plan. It'due south crazy to call up that it was but an idea back in January, and so reality in February then All-time Sports Plan in July. I couldn't be more proud."
Lowrie said xix regions are in the National Academy of Goggle box Arts and Sciences.
"Our seven winners volition at present exist passed on and rejudged against the winners in the other 18 regions," he said. "NATAS will then name national nominees in each category and then a unmarried national winner in each category. Y'all must win your region to be considered at the national level."
He said nominations should come up out in September, with the national winners appear in a virtual ceremony in October.
The National University of Television set Arts and Sciences began the Student Product Awards competition in 2003, Lowrie said.
Since then, Gahanna Lincoln has won eight regional awards. With this year'south seven, the total is 15, he said.
Lowrie, who just completed his 2nd year at Lincoln, previously worked at Amherst Marion L. Steele High School, where his students won 55 regional and three national Pupil Product Awards from NATAS.
He said Gahanna's programme has xiii students returning this year who were part of the winning entries.
"We promise to start Lincoln Live for this school yr by the twenty-four hours after Labor Twenty-four hour period this year," Lowrie said. "Nosotros volition spend the first few weeks of school preparing for the twelvemonth."
